MTA cops help deliver baby boy in Penn Station

Posted on 04:24 by Unknown

Quick thinking MTA cops helped deliver a baby boy in Penn Station after a 32 year-old woman went into labor while waiting for the Long Island Railroad yesterday morning, authorities said.

The woman was standing on the platform near track 20 when she suddenly went into labor. Four MTA cops sprung into action after responding to the emergency call and helped her into a district office where the mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

"It happened so fast, she was screaming. We went to her, she couldn't walk. She was in shock. We brought her to the precinct which is right inside Penn Station. We delivered the baby, it was a boy. She [the mother] was in shock and in a lot of pain. It happened so fast." MTA Police officer Vinay Hathiraamani,32, said.

MTA officers Vinay Hathiramani, Joe Cona, Melissa DeFrancesco and Burt Silva who helped deliver the newborn at exactly 10:04 a.m.

Police officer Meghan Francesco handed the baby boy over to paramedics who transported the mother and infant to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

In March of 2009 a woman gave birth to a baby boy in Penn Station during rush hour with the help of NYPD officers. The newborn was named Cesar Penn Boothe.
